Amanda Wilson

GIPS Board Member: Ward A

Amanda Wilson and her husband Jonathan have called Grand Island home for the past 12 years. Together, they have five children, ages 16, 14, 12, 10, and 8, all of whom attend GIPS.

Amanda earned a degree in Sociology, is an RN, and has served as a substitute teacher at GIPS. She is very active in our town, and her resume of community involvement includes:

  • Serving on the Patient & Family Advisory Council at CHI/St. Francis from 2016-2022

  • Serving on the Board of Directors at CHI/St. Francis from 2019-2022

  • Serving on the GIPS Parent Advisory Council from 2019-2022

  • Working with children as a youth Sunday school teacher

  • Working with the foster care system as a former foster parent

  • Serving as a GIPS substitute teacher from 2021-2022

Amanda’s Platform

In the 2022 election, Amanda chose to run for the GIPS Board of Education because she believes the teachers are not being given the care they deserve, the students are not receiving the education they need, and the community is not offered the transparency that GIPS claims to provide.

Amanda offers a very unique perspective of GIPS. Her five school-aged children, experience as a substitute teacher, and time spent on the GIPS Parent Advisory Council has helped her to become aware of how our teachers feel and how the current curriculum is affecting our children. Her passion and energy for the educational experience of children is evident when visiting with her, and her empathy for the teachers is second to none.
